Las Vigas de Ramírez

A mountain refuge between history, forests and adventure

Nature, tradition and mountain life

Located approximately 35 kilometers from the city of Xalapa, Las Vigas de Ramírez is a municipality that in recent years has shown remarkable economic, social and tourist development, without losing its mountainous essence or its close relationship with nature.

Its cold to temperate climate, extensive forests and quiet atmosphere have made it one of the favorite destinations for those looking for rest and outdoor activities in the center of Veracruz.

The history of Las Vigas dates back to 1525, when a sale was established near a small bridge of beams over a stream, known as the "puente de las Vigas." Over time, the settlement adopted the name of Las Vigas and, after initially belonging to the municipality of Tlacolulan, it was elevated to Villa in 1935. In 1968 it was erected as the head of the municipality of Las Vigas de Ramírez, in honor of Professor Rafael Ramírez, a prominent standardist educator and great promoter of the Mexican Rural School, originally from this land.

The local economy is mainly based on agriculture, with the production of corn, coffee, rice and fruits, as well as the recognized production of Christmas trees, an activity that promotes seasonal tourism and strengthens community identity. This link with the land is also reflected in its traditional gastronomy and in the hospitality of its people.

Las Vigas de Ramírez is an ideal destination for lovers of ecotourism and adventure.

In its surroundings there are natural spaces such as the Volcancillo, a site with caves and rock formations conducive to mountaineering, climbing and mountain biking.

In addition, areas such as the Green Cycle Forest, the Juan del Monte Ecological Reserve and various trails allow activities such as hiking, flora and fauna observation, camping and abbelling.

The tourist offer is complemented by ecological cabins and ranches immersed in the forest, which provide rest experiences in contact with nature.

These spaces offer from rustic accommodation to recreational and adventure activities, making Las Vigas an excellent option for weekend getaways or longer stays.

Its cultural richness is also manifested in the traditional architecture, still visible in some homes, and in the current efforts to rescue and preserve the built heritage of the municipality, through projects promoted by educational and cultural institutions.

Las Vigas de Ramírez is a destination where the forest, history and rural life create a serene and authentic experience, perfect to reconnect with nature and discover the charm of the Veracruz mountain.
