Ocozocoautla is of Nahuatl origin; it comes from the words "Okoshotl"; "Ocozote" and "Kuautla"; "Forest"; that is, "Forest of Ocozotes."
This site boasts a wide variety of attractions. Among the natural attractions are the Venta River Canyon, the Sótano de la Lucha, the Conchuda Waterfall, the Junta River, and the Aguacero Waterfalls. Among the cultural attractions are the Church of San Bernabé, the Church of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, the Chapel of Guadalupe, and the Hacienda del Gavilán.
Its local cuisine is characterized by the following dishes: roast suckling pig, chanfaina, zispolá (a traditional Zoque dish, a beef soup with cabbage, achiote, and other ingredients), corn pictes, and pux-xaxé.
The handicrafts we can find include clay figures, hand-embroidered clothing, amber products, and wood carvings.
Its most famous festivals are: Zoque Carnival, the Fair of the Virgin of the Assumption, the Fair of San Juan Bautista, and the Fair of San Antonio.
