Acuitlapilco Lagoon

Acuitlapilco Lagoon, south of Tlaxcala, is a body of water ideal for boat trips and observing migratory birds such as ducks and herons. During the rainy season, its water level rises, making it a popular spot for picnics. The lagoon has docks and recreational areas for picnics and flying kites. Local fishermen offer sport fishing tours for tilapia and trout. In winter, migratory ducks and herons can be observed, and there are trails for walking around the lagoon.

Among the most popular activities are kayaking and paddleboarding, with equipment rentals available on weekends. The shoreline is lined with grasslands and groves where opossums and songbirds live, and viewpoints have been installed for watching the sunset.

At the dock, you can find snacks like esquites (Mexican street corn) and artisanal ice cream, and fishermen sell fresh tilapia fillets. The lagoon is also the setting for nautical festivals and the veneration of the Virgin of Ocotlán, to whom flowers are offered from decorated boats. The site has camping areas and a small craft market.

The lagoon is home to herons, Canada geese, and fish such as carp and tilapia, which are popular for sport fishing. Rowboats and kayaks can be rented to explore its calm waters, and fresh seafood and snacks are available on the boardwalk. The area has viewpoints for watching the sunset and playgrounds for children.
