Sitio fortificado donde se resguardaban y defendían los zapotecos de los ataques de grupos hostiles. Considerado el centro administrativo del reinado zapoteco en el Istmo.
Su población, fiel a sus costumbres y tradiciones, mantiene una identidad propia que, aunada a la arquitectura vernácula, genera un ambiente nostálgico y bohemio en sus calles.
