Nogales

The municipality of Nogales, located in the central mountainous region of Veracruz, combines history, tradition and nature in a single destination.

Its current name comes from the extensive walnut trees that once covered the valley, while its old Nahuatl name, Oztoticpac, means "encima de la cueva", evoking its environment of caves and rock formations.

Nogales is recognized as "the cradle of miscegenation," because according to the chronicles by historians the presence of Hernán Cortés and the Malinche was present.

The first sugar mill in Latin America and an important marble factory were also established in its territory.

Among its natural attractions stands the Laguna de Nogales, a water mirror surrounded by vegetation where visitors can enjoy boat rides, trajineras, water activities and moments of rest with the family. Every December, the place is transformed into an Illuminated Villa with light shows, ice rink and festive atmosphere.

The Fountain of Love (fuente del amor), shrouded in legend, and the Fairy Cave (cueva de las hadas) complement the magical atmosphere of the municipality.

For adventure lovers, the Canyon of La Carbonera (cañon de la carbonera) offers hiking and reiling routes, especially in the place known as Piedra El Águila, from where you can get breathtaking views of the mountain landscape.

Cultural identity is also reflected in the Casa Nahual Museum (museo casa nahual), dedicated to the mystical figure of the Nahual, a being that, according to Mesoamerican tradition, has the gift of transforming into an animal. This space invites you to learn about the beliefs, myths and ancestral expressions of the region.

To complete the visit, nothing better than trying its local gastronomy, with traditional dishes such as tamales de mixiote con flor de izotetamales de mixiote con flor de izote

and chonchoyotes, small balls of dough with a touch of Veracruz flavor.
