Tamiahua

Where the sea and tradition meet

Cradle of magic and legends

The name Tamiahua comes from the Huasteco word Tam-yan-ja, which means "place of a lot of water", a perfect description for this destination surrounded by the lagoon, the sea and the canals that give life to the region in Veracruz

Located in the Huasteca Veracruzana, Tamiahua combines ancient history, natural landscapes and a cultural heritage that captivates those who visit it.

Its origin dates back to the early days of the Mesoamerican civilization. Local chronicles mention ReinaTomiyauh, a Huasteca woman who ruled these lands before the Mexica rule.

According to tradition, he joined Xólotl, the "Estrella de la tarde", while Quetzalcoatl represented the "Estrella de la mañana", both symbols of the planet Venus. This legend envelops Tamiahua in a mystical halo that still endures in his identity.

The main natural attraction is the Laguna de Tamiahua, an extensive body of water that communicates with the Golfo de México and houses a rich marine biodiversity. Here, boat rides and fishing trips are an essential part of the experience, allowing you to enjoy unique landscapes and the warmth of its fishing people.

Very close by is the Isla Lobos, a coastal paradise ideal for diving, snorkeling and marine wildlife observation.

Other must-see places are the Iglesia de Santiago Apóstol, el pescador, symbol of the faith and tradition of the people, and Majahual, a golden sand beach located a few kilometers from the center, perfect for relaxing in front of the sea.

Tamiahua also celebrates its popular festivals with joy and pride: the Fiesta de San Marcos on April 23, the Fiesta de Paso Lorenzo on August 11, the colorful Carnaval de Mayo and the famous Feria del Ostión, where the flavors of the sea become protagonists.

The local cuisine is a real treasure. Ostiones a la pimienta, camarones enchipotlados, enchiladas de pipián, and unique dishes such as machuca de plátano, la calabaza con carne de puerco o camarones, budín de calabaza and tamales de calabaza con camarones.

All accompanied by the cheerful rhythm of the huapango and the tropical music that floods the streets.
