Mercado Zonal de las Flores

The traditional Zonal Flower Market has been delighting the palates of local, national, and international visitors since 1985. This emblematic place still maintains its original location, just 20 minutes from the Oaxacan capital, in La Flores neighborhood, along Highway 190, in the municipality of Santa Lucía del Camino.

With over 40 years of existence, the Zonal Flower Market offers high-quality products, where visitors can find a wide variety of goods, such as general merchandise, decoration shops, clothing and footwear stores, as well as areas dedicated to fresh fruit, vegetables, dairy products, and beef, pork, chicken, and seafood.

As if that weren’t enough, the market also features a long corridor of food stalls, where visitors can enjoy the rich Oaxacan gastronomy—from a traditional tejate, or a hot chocolate (with water or milk), served with pan de yema (egg yolk bread), to delicious memelitas, empanadas filled with squash blossoms or yellow mole, as well as enfrijoladas, entomatadas, enchiladas, barbacoa, and a wide variety of Oaxacan tamales, fried tacos, molotes, quesadillas, and many other traditional dishes from the region.

To this day, the Zonal Flower Market opens every day of the week, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. It is undoubtedly an essential stop on the city’s market route—not only because of its rich culinary offerings, but also for the history found in its hallways, which dates back to the mid-1970s, when various vendors began selling products such as fruits, vegetables, and meats on the land where the market now stands, serving passersby and local residents.
